Weekly Worship - March 14, 2026

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Rev. Matt Alspaugh presents “Attention Attention Attention” at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Sunday, March 15, at its noon service.

There’s a Zen story about a man who asks the great master Ikkyu to write him a teaching of great wisdom. With his brush, Ikkyu writes just the word, “Attention.” Dissatisfied, the man asks, “Is that all?” Ikkyu writes again, “Attention Attention.” The man grouses, “That doesn’t seem profound at all!” So Ikkyu writes “Attention Attention Attention.” Finally, in frustration, the man demanded, “What does this word ‘attention’ mean?” Ikkyu’s reply was simple: “Attention means attention.”

What is this attention? It’s not just a Zen thing. We’ll look into paying attention, how to do it, and why it is important for this fellowship and us.

Mike Blanco will be the service associate.

All services of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship are held at noon at St. Andrews Anglican Church, San Lucas 19, Riberas de Pilar. For more information: lcuuf.org.

Common Ground Fellowship at Little Chapel

Faith—What is it? Is it a desire? A wish? A belief? Scripture makes it very clear that true faith is much more than all of these combined. Come join us this Sunday as Doctor Ted Rogers takes a deep dive into the meaning of what faith truly is in his message, “Faith, the Substance of Things Hoped For,” at Common Ground Fellowship Little Chapel by the Lake’s main worship service.

CGFLC is a bilingual, friendly, and all-inclusive place to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We believe the church exists primarily for the benefit of those outside it as we seek to make Christ’s love known to others by serving our community in a feeding ministry and various other forms of aid. Additionally, we gladly accept donations of clothing and non-perishable food items that go directly to families in need in our purple donation box in front of the Chapel. Among our missions, we also host Saturday’s car wash fundraiser for Mama Cleo’s boys home 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each week and we have a Saturday outreach to the poorer kids in Chapala.

We have a time of singing on Sundays at 9 a.m. and prayer time at 10 a.m. Our main worship service begins at 11 a.m. and includes a children’s church. During the week, Belva Velazquez teaches a Bible Study on Building a Bold Witness on Wednesday evenings at 5 p.m. And for the next several weeks on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Dr. Ted Rogers teaches a class on prayer through the Chapala Theological Seminary.

But the Lord’s Supper is not simply a memorial service so much as a thanksgiving celebration! This week we explore the meaning, power, and ongoing gift of Communion.

Lake Chapala Baptist

History often looks like a battlefield of ambition, betrayal, and power. Kings boast, armies march, and empires rise, yet all fade like shadows at sunset. In the Bible, Daniel’s vision shows that behind these struggles lies a deeper conflict—human pride opposing God. The spirit that exalts itself against Him appears again and again, foreshadowing the final rebellion of the Antichrist. Yet the outcome is never in doubt. Those who know their God stand firm while tyrants pass away. Empires roar for a moment, but God’s quiet sovereignty endures, and faithfulness—not power—will be remembered when history reaches its end.
