Young Mexicans shun TV, prefer Facebook

What’s the most popular activity of young Mexicans aged between 13 and 34?   Watching TV? Listening to music? Logging on to Facebook?

You probably guessed it.  Facebook.

Nine out of ten Mexicans in this age bracket now log on to Facebook on a daily basis, according to a new survey by ComScore.

For just over half of those surveyed, Facebook activity is the last thing they do before going to sleep each night. And for 42 percent, it’s their first task on waking up in the morning – even before cleaning their teeth!

The revealing survey also shows that Mexico’s millenials (those with birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s), routinely multitask their Facebook use: 63 percent said they listen to music at the same time, and 59 percent watch TV.  Around 30 percent said they logged in while at school.

Unsurprisingly, the survey found that less than one-third ever look at a newspapers or magazine, and that 54 percent use WhatsApp to communicate with friends.
