Thanksgiving dining out in Guadalajara & lakeside: Be thankful for so many options

Here are some bountiful options to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with a traditional dinner, either in Guadalajara or the Lake Chapala area.

METRO AREA

American Society of Jalisco

Thanksgiving dinner is Amsoc’s biggest and best celebration of U.S. culture each year and a time when year-round residents and snowbirds get together on the forth Thursday of November. This year the menu is salad, home-baked turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. A cash bar is available. The doors open at noon and the meal begins at 1:30 p.m. The cost is 220 pesos for adults and 110 pesos for children under 12. Tickets are limited to 110, so make your reservations now. St. Mark’s

Saint Mark’s Anglican Church of in Colonia Monraz holds its parish Thanksgiving on Saturday, November 28, 2:30 p.m. The catered meal is based on the recipes of the parish priest’s wife, Sue Priddy, whose holiday fare at church gatherings is always a hit. The cost is 200 pesos for adults and 100 pesos for children. The church is at the corner of Aztecas and Chichimecas, a two-minute drive north of Plaza Mexico and near the end of Bus 33-A. Aderezzo

Aderezzo Restaurant in Colonia Americana offers traditional Thanksgiving fare from Monday, November 23u ntil Saturday, November 28, 1 p.m. until closing. The menu includes roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, Waldorf salad and pumpkin pie. Call for cost. Aderezzo is at Jose Guadalalupe Zuno and Avenida Chapultepec. Hotel Presidente Intercontinental

This Plaza del Sol area landmark offers Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, November 26 at its Frutas y Flores restaurant from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The buffet menu includes pumpkin cream, turkey breast in cranberry sauce, pork leg adobada, ham in pineapple sauce, fusilli in mushroom cream sauce, sweet potatoe puree, risotto with dried fruit, buttered corn, Waldorf salad, green beans with pecans and bacon, spinach salad with cranberries and tangerines, sweet creamy coleslaw with raisins, apple strudel, pumpkin and sweet potatoe pies, carrot and black forest cakes and pecan tarts. Armando’s

Menu: Waldorf salad, roast turkey with all the trimmings including mashed and sweet potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and green beans, pumpkin pie, a glass of house wine, Kahlua. Cost: 220 pesos. Reservations: 766-2229.

La Nueva Posada

Menu: vegetable crudite platter, tomato bisque Pernod with croutons, croissant with butter, roast turkey, sage stuffing, gravy, whole cranberry sauce, whipped potatoes, candied yams and toasted pecans, sweet and sour Danish red cabbage, English peas, spicy pumpkin pie with vanilla scented cream, coffee or tea and liquor. Los Telares

Buffet menu: roast turkey, stuffing, sweet potato puree, mashed potatoes, cream of pumpkin soup, caramelized carrots, gravy and cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Cost: 235 pesos includes one house drink and dessert. Reservations: 766-0428.

Manix

Buffet menu: roast turkey and crown roast pork, turkey and pork gravy, mashed potatoes, whipped sweet yams, corn souffle, mixed vegetables, cranberry sauce and dessert bar with apple, pumpkin and pecan pie with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Cost: 270 pesos. Reservations: 766-0061.

Cocinart

Josie’s

Maria Isabel

Panino

Menu: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn bread dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce. Cost: 150 pesos. Reservations: 766-3822.

Roberto’s 

Menu: Crab bisque au Cognac, holiday salad, red and white wine aspic with red and green grapes topped with Marscapone dressing, roast turkey with all the trimmings or salmon au artichoke or roast beef brisket au jus with Yorkshire pudding, pumpkin praline pie with ginger mouse and Amaretto fizz. Salvador’s

Buffet menu: roast turkey and ham, Waldorf salad, pasta and green salad, corn bread, mashed potatoes, many desserts including pumpkin and pecan pie.
