Pet Help rescues 700 dogs in Guadalajara

All the rescued animals were placed in responsible homes, group representatives say. Nonetheless, they recognize that abandonment and mistreatment of domestic animals is still a major problem in Guadalajara, where some 300,000  dogs are believed to be roaming the streets.  The group says that despite tougher municipal laws enacted at the beginning of the year, the illegal sale of animals in street markets – notably the Sunday’s El Baratillo on the eastern side of the city – is continuing. In addition, they point to the ongoing practice of dog fights being staged openly in some neighborhoods of Tlajomulco as another example of widespread animal abuse in the city.
