Civil Protection units have identified 116 trouble spots in the south of the city where drainage is poor and flooding of homes and streets has been a problem in the past. Abastos market and the underpasses at Avenida Niños Heroes at Inglaterra and Arcos at Inglaterra are just a few of the places to watch out for during heavy rains.
About a dozen neighborhoods, including Colonia Americana, still need tree trimming to keep from losing power this season according to Municipal Public Services Director Francisco Castillo Madrigal. His department has two teams on standby to handle any fallen trees or utility posts.
City Ecology Director Juan Carlos Vázquez Becerra has his crew cropping the worst of some 1,200 dead or damaged trees that could topple if the ground softens up too much during a heavy rain.
