The officers explained that a vehicle with the same characteristics was reported stolen in a denuncia filed on May 25.
The nuns said the vehicle had been donated to their mission to enable them to carry out their labors and they had no knowledge of its history.
After the nuns were forced to make a declaration at the Ministerio Publico and faced the real possibility of being locked up, officials realized that there had been an error and the van was not the stolen vehicle in question. It transpired that the owner had recovered his missing van a day earlier but failed to inform police. The nuns, somewhat traumatized, were then allowed to go home.
