Legal downtown street vendors to get nifty tricycles

Guadalajara city hall is checking out suppliers of tricycles and/or carts that registered ambulant vendors will have to use in the city center.  The vendors will be loaned the conveyances and will not be obliged to pay for them.

Cabinet coordinator Hugo Luna Vazquez says city hall wants to create and “attractive and homogenized” image in the center.

After boldly clearing the center of all illegal traders last month, Mayor Enrique Alfaro promised to issue permits to 158 vendors to sell certain items in the historic downtown core.

As well as only using the official carts, the vendors will be tightly regulated and restricted to certain areas.  In addition, the city plans to erect nine fixed booths were selected vendors may ply their trade.

More than two million pesos has been set aside to purchase the equipment. This week, several firms demonstrated various prototypes of carts in the central patio of city hall.
