Metro-area Guadalajara’s “luxury” buses, which cost 12 pesos instead of the regular seven, are nothing more than a rip-off, many passengers are complaining.
To be able to charge more, the Tur and Premier buses are supposed to have air conditioning, televisions, padded seating and not permit standing passengers. Operators of these lines are required to pay special attention to safety concerns and maintain their buses in optimum condition.
This week, employees from Jalisco’s Transportation Secretariat (Secretaría de Movilidad or Semov) carried out an unannounced inspection of more than 60 TUR and Premier buses. Of these 24 were found in violation of regulations and their owners slapped with various fines. Nine units were deemed unfit for service and removed from circulation.
