Online business provides domestic workers ‘on demand’

Guadalajara residents who only have an occasional need for maid a or household helper/cleaner might check out a new web-based service, “Mi dulce hogar,” which supplies “trustworthy” domestic workers on demand.

The one-year-old company currently employs seven female workers aged over 45 who can carry out domestic chores while homeowners are either in the house, at work or out doing other tasks or errands.

The general cleaning service, costing from 260 pesos for up to five hours of work, includes sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, washing dishes, dusting, taking out the garbage, tending beds and general tidying up. Additional services may be requested, such as washing clothes and ironing. Prices vary depending on the size of the property.

The service can be contracted per day, week, or for a special event.

Founder Estefania Hernandez says the company has full information on each of its employees on file, and carries out constant quality control checks. The workers receive the statutory government benefits, are given rest days and sometimes have drivers to take them to their places of work.

According to its directors, the service is popular with households needing help cleaning up after parties.

In the future Hernandez is looking to employ around 30 staff and plans to expand to other cities, including Loen and Cancun.

The domestic workers can be requested either by phone at 1726-5209, or on the firm’s website, www.midulcehogar.mx.
