US training in anti-terrorism

Tanya Anderson, the U.S. consul general in Guadalajara, hands out certificates to 25 high-ranking officials from various metropolitan area law enforcement and civil protection organizations who participated in a recent course administered by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Antiterrorism Assistance (ATA).

The program trains civilian security and law enforcement personnel from governments friendly with the United States in police procedures that deal with terrorism. Some of the topics included in the ATA course are bomb detection, crime scene investigation, airport and building security, maritime protections and VIP protection. Since its inception in 1983, the program has trained and assisted over 84,000 foreign security and law enforcement officials from 154 countries.
