Hard Rock Hotel to open at busy city junction

Plans were released this week to build a Hard Rock Hotel next to Guadalajara’s iconic “cube statue” at the convergence of avenidas Vallarta and Lazaro Cardenas.

The 350-room landmark hotel will cost $US70 million and be ready for opening in January 2018, according to the developers.

The hotel will feature a spa, gymnasium, business and convention centers, bars, disco, restaurants and a pool, among other amenities. Wealthy clients will be able to enjoy a stay at a “rock star suite,” a feature of all the hotels in the Hard Rock chain.

The project is expected to generate around 700 permanent jobs, developers say.

There are now 26 Hard Rock hotels in different cities and resorts around the world, including Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

The Hard Rock brand began in 1971 with a single cafe in London, England. The company now operates cafes, hotels and casinos in more than 190 locations in 59 countries.

A Hard Rock Cafe in Guadalajara’s Centro Magno mall opened in 1998 but closed after ten years.
