Fire threatens city subdivision

The first wildfire of 2017 this week threatened properties in the Guadalajara subdivision of Pinar de la Venta, home to Reporter columnist John Pint and his wife Susy.

Pint says the fire started around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. “At 10:30 p.m. we got a phone call from a neighbor’s teen-age daughter. ‘Our house is burning down!’ she told us.   Her mother was too scared to talk on the phone.” According to Pint, several neighbors went out with shovels and rakes to fight the blaze, which was raging along Pinar de la Venta’s streets.

Firefighters arrived in the area at 10:45 p.m. and soon got things under control, Pint said. “As for the house of the teen-ager who called us, their garden was burnt, but house untouched,” he added.
