Guadalajara one step closer to hosting 2022 Gay Games

Guadalajara is on a shortlist of three to host the Gay Games XI in 2022, following a vote taken at the general assembly of the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) held at the end of February.

The city will be bidding against Hong Kong and Washington, D.C. 

The final vote will take place in October at the FGG’s annual general assembly meeting in Paris, France.

The FGG boasts that the Gay Games is the largest sport and culture event in the world open to all. Its aim is to changes social and political attitudes toward LGBT+ people through the core principles of “Participation, Inclusion and Personal Best.” 

The FGG was conceived by Dr. Tom Waddell, an Olympic decathlete, and was first held in San Francisco in 1982. 

The tenth Gay Games takes place in Paris from August 4-12, 2018, and features 36 sports, 14 cultural events, academic conference and 15,000 participants from 70 countries.

If selected, Guadalajara would become the first Latin American country to host the games.
