New aquarium prices excessive, Tapatios say

The prices being charged by Guadalajara’s new aquarium are excessively high, most Tapatios are commenting.

The entry fee for the Acuario Michin, located in the Parque Alcalde, is 199 pesos for adults and 129 pesos for children – making for a total of 656 pesos for a family of four (approximately $US35).  The minimum salary in Mexico is 80.4 pesos a day ($US4.20).

In a poll conducted by Guadalajara daily El Informador, 87.7 percent of respondents said the cost of entry was too expensive for the spectacle on offer.  Only 3.7 percent believed the fee to be in accordance with similar attractions in the city.

A basic ticket to the Guadalajara Zoo is 80 pesos for adults and 47 pesos for children.

Under a concession agreement with Guadalajara city hall, the Acuario Michin is obliged to offer hundreds of free tours to public school children each year.
