Bread rolls stuffed with curious filling

Customs officers intercepted an bizarre shipment of cocaine in the cargo area of the Guadalajara Airport this week.

The legendary white powder was discovered in small transparent packets stuffed inside four birotes (Mexican bread rolls). A bag containing 15 birotes had been placed inside a cardboard box to be shipped to Huntington Park, California. No arrests were made.

The discovery revealed the latest in a series of creative methods being employed by local traffickers to transport small quantities of drugs out of the country. In April, 250 grams of marijuana were found in a teddy bear at the Tonala bus station. In June, also at the airport, federal officers discovered 650 grams of weed packed in traditional candies, and 300 grams of crystal meth tucked in the frames of six artworks ready to be sent to the Netherlands.
