One dead after shootout at well-known restaurant

The bodyguard for a former senior naval officer was shot to death outside a popular Guadalajara restaurant last week. The shootout occurred at the Imortales eatery located on Avenida Patria, one block from the busy intersection with Avenida Vallarta.  Diners dived for cover as shots rang out, many of them shattering against the outside wall of the restaurant. The alleged target of the attack was able to escape out of a back door, reports said. A second man who was also involved in the shootout was found injured in a street behind the eatery.

Baseball stadium changes its name

The stadium where the Charros de Jalisco will play 34 Mexican Pacific League baseball games over the next two and a half months (the season starts this week) has undergone another name change. It was originally built to house athletics competitions at the 2013 Pan American Games and was called the Estadio Panamericano. When the Charros became tenants, it took on the moniker the Estadio Charros.  It will now be known as the Estadio AGA, thanks to its new sponsors, the refresco manufacturer Embotelladora AGA.
