LGBTIQ+ ‘safe space’ campaign precedes city’s Gay Games

One month before the start of the 2023 Gay Games in Guadalajara, the Jalisco and Guadalajara governments have launched a campaign to provide a “safe space” for the LGBTIQ+ community and protect their integrity, as well as promote affirmative messages about diversity.

“This campaign seeks to strengthen the commitment of the city to diversity and equality,” said Andrés Treviño, director of the state government’s Dirección de Diversidad Sexual (Sexual Diversity Directorate).

Under the “Guadalajara Espacio Seguro” campaign, any kind of complaint or query regarding discrimination will be handled by staff at the directorate’s head office, located at Jesús García 720 in the Guadalajara centro. People can also get immediate support by calling 333-169-2669 or sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Treviño said more than 5,000 posters will be distributed in restaurants, bars, hotels, government offices and public spaces over the next three weeks.

Treviño added that Guadalajara has become “one of the world’s most inclusive and progressive cities,” thanks to actions such as the creation of his department, the recognition of the rights of trans children, the ban on conversion therapies and hosting the 2023 Gay Games.
