Spirituality Expo

Visitors can expect to find more than 5,000 products on sale at the Spirituality Expo (Expo Espiritualidad) to be held at Expo Guadalajara from Friday, December 15 through Sunday, December 17.

This event focuses on alternative spirituality and esotericism, as well as many other disciplines. Organizers say exhibitors will showcase diverse themes such as yoga, tai chi, magic, tarot, meditation, aromatherapy, nutrition, herbalism, astrology, candles, rituals, channeling of angels, healing chains and music, candles, gong baths, harmonizations, and more. There will also be a full schedule of workshops and conferences. Open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all three days. Free admission with prior registration.

Poinsettias

A Christmas Crafts Fair will be installed in the Plaza Fundadores behind Guadalajara’s Degollado Theater between December 8 and 23. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Also, a fair featuring various vendors of different kinds and colors of poinsettia (nochebuena) will continue through Monday, December 11 in the plaza in front of the Santuario de Nuestra Señora Guadalupe on the Paseo Alcalde pedestrian walkway.

Let it snow

It almost never snows in Guadalajara (last time was in 1997), so many Tapatios have a fascination with the white stuff. Some make the slog up the Colima Volcano just to know what it’s like to feel it in their hands.  For this reason, simulated snowfalls (nevadas) have become quite the  trend during the holiday season.  These are planned as part of the downtown Guadalajara Ilusionante festival (see page 1) but also in several city shopping malls. The Midtown mall on Avenida Lopez Mateos presents snowfalls Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. through December 24, while the Andares mall has programmed them each evening from December 11 to December 30 at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. (not on December 25). Andares will also present “The Nutcracker” in its stage area on Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 17, 7 p.m., and hosts a Christmas “night market” Saturdays, December 9, 16 and 23.
