Emotion overcomes young Hong Kong soccer fan

A soccer fan who flew from Hong Kong to Guadalajara to meet Chivas star Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, burst into tears when she finally came face to face with her idol.

pg23A video posted on Chivas’ social media showed the encounter between “Franky” and Hernández, the 31-year-old superstar who was resigned by the Guadalajara team last year after spending 11 years with top teams in foreign leagues.

Hernández gave the contented visitor to the Chivas training ground Dragon Ball gifts and a signed poster, while he signed a T-shirt “Franky” had brought with her on the 14,000-kilometer trip from Hong Kong.

Due to injuries, Hernández, the top scorer of the Mexican national team, has appeared infrequently for the Chivas since returning to Guadalajara.  He is, however, expected to contribute to the Liga Mexico Clausura 2024 playoffs, which will start next week.

The Chivas lie in seventh place in the Liga Mx standings and are assured of a playoff place.  The top four teams get an automatic spot in the quarter-finals, while the eight teams placed from 5th to 12th play one-off wild card games for the right to advance.

The Chivas play their final regular season game on Saturday, April 27 against local rivals Atlas.  The game at the Jalisco Stadium kicks off at 9 p.m.
