International waterski wizards delight crowds at Boca Laguna

Although turnout was less than hoped for, spectators who made the trip to Lakeside’s Boca Laguna waterski club thoroughly enjoyed the five-day World Masters Championship last week.

Competitors from all over the world competed in  slalom, tricks, and jumps events in both men’s and women’s divisions in three age categories:  35-44, 45-54 and 55 and up.

Graham Ashcroft  of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia did not make the finals but many members of his team did.  Although amateurs, they travel long distances  to compete  in IWWF (International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation) sanctioned events.  Asked what the best thing was about Mexico, Ashcroft replied, in true Aussie style, “It’s the beer!”

The newly completed Boca Laguna facility sparkled. Its grounds were clean, mowed and fenced. Parking was plentiful. Large and small tents were everywhere, while plentiful refreshments, snacks and vendors added to the atmosphere.
