Chapala City Hall to host readings for peace

Readings of Spanish-language short stories revolving around themes of peace, justice and the horrors of violence will be presented at the lakeside edition of the third annual Encuentro de Escritores por Ciudad Juárez”, to be held at Chapala City Hall on Saturday, September 28, 5 p.m. Admission is open to the public free of charge.

The Writers Encounter for Ciudad Juarez was established in 2011 as a freedom of expression movement aimed at promoting the culture of peace and non-violence to counteract rampant violence in Mexico’s most crime-ridden border city.  The concept is based on the principle stated is the UNESCO founding charter: “Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.”

The local program, coordinated by Colectivo Cultural El Quijote and the Escuela Preparatoria Regional de Chapala, will feature selected works penned by authors from Mexico, Spain and Argentina.  Similar events will be held simultaneously in 15 other towns and cities in Mexico and more than 50 places in a dozen different countries around the globe.
