Vote for Lake Chapala’s ‘Best’ from April 15

ImagenMx, publishers of the “Chapala Directory” and StreetSmart map guide, announce the launch of a new three-fold venture focusing on the Best of Lake Chapala.

The project is comprised of a print magazine featuring that name, a companion web site at BestofLakeChapala.com, and a “Best of the Best, People Choice Awards” system.

This new endeavor was inspired by elements of 1990s bilingual “El Baratillo” (“The Bargain Hunter”) created for lakeside by ImagenMx. The popular original publication was full of free want ads, jokes, contests, brainteasers, community news ... and the first Best of the Best, People’s Choice Awards survey.

When the entries were collected from area ballot boxes, the tallied results were announced in the January 1999 issue and again at an awards ceremony where certificates were presented to the winning businesspeople who were entertained by the renowned Mariachi Vargas. Those original winners are listed at BestOfLakeChapala.com.

“Today, the web provides an easier and more efficient platform for the awards contest,” said publisher Adelle Morgan-Cordero. “But after 16 years of growth in the business community, the competition is much stiffer.”

The BestofLakeChapala.com website is up and running with a poll so readers can vote on new Best of the Best awards. The site is filled with feature articles, a business directory, community events calendar and free classified ads. “The website offers plenty of humor and interactive features such as contests and brainteasers, much like the old Bargain Hunter,” said Morgan-Cordero.

“The site is now live on the web in Beta testing mode, and visitors are welcome to visit.”

The website is set up to accept member registrations (necessary for contest validity) and for now, “practice  voting.” At 12:01 a.m. on April 15, the tally will be re-set to zero and official voting will begin. A new polling category will be added each month. Site members can vote once daily in any or all category polls; write-in candidates are accepted. Site visitors can view the automatically tallied voting progress during the year. Winners will receive a printed certificate and free use of a digital web award emblem.

The full-color “Best of Lake Chapala” magazine will focus on lakeside amenities, culture, history, entertainment, events, goods and services, travel, progress and those things useful or of interest to area residents, newcomers and tourists.  The first issue has a projected publication date in late summer. Initially published quarterly, the magazine may increase to a monthly once a full roster of writers and staff members are finalized.

ImagenMx is currently accepting applications for experienced writers (particularly those with magazine or journalism backgrounds), photographers and other contributors of ideas and talent.

ImagenMx invites suggestions for both the web site and the magazine. Correspondence can be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
