Quick guide for Chapala tax payers

Property taxes

To pay in person at the Chapala City Hall Catastro office, bring last year’s receipt, pull a numbered ficha from the ticket dispenser and wait until the number lights up on the digital screen above the windows at right of the seating area. Payments (cash or bank card) are collected by the same method at the cashier’s window on the opposite side of the lobby.  Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Online payment and billing: Go to www.chapala.gob.mx and click on the “pagar predial” button at left. Fill in Número de Cuenta (account number), retype the captcha security code in next box, click “Buscar” and continue to “Pagar en linea” button. Follow the same procedure to the last step and hit “Imprimir” to obtain a bill print-out payable at any Santander bank branch.

Get a 15-percent discount for full annual payment by February 28. Rates for most accounts have jumped up by 10 to 15 percent, with steeper increases applied to homes located in plush residential zones and properties subject to recent value reassessments. Catastro staff are available to clarify bills and adjust fees when pertinent. 

Water service fees 

Pay in person at the nearest Simapa office. A 15-percent discount is applied to annual bills paid by February 28.  Fee increases for 2015 average six percent. Water consumption fees set at 8 pesos per cubic meter (m3) for properties equipped with meters, 12 pesos per m3 for fixed tariff accounts. Enquire at office for information on meter installment.  Hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Note: Chapala Simapa office has moved to Privada Zaragoza 12-A (the former CFE office), one block east of the Pemex station.

Vehicle registration 

Pay in person Chapala’s state tax office at Degollado 306, to obtain official receipt, vehicle registration card and 2015 stickers on the spot. Cashier requires only the license plate number to access account and documents. Discounted cost is 405 pesos during January, 428 pesos in February, 452 pesos in March, will full 476-peso fee kicking in April 1. Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday.
