Opera-lovers delight comes to Ajijic

Opera lovers are in for a real treat when the Ópera de Cámara de Axixic appears Wednesday, February 4, at 6 p.m., at the Auditorio de la Ribera, La Floresta. The bill for the gala concert will feature masterpieces composed by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Bizet, and Rossini performed by a company that boasts three talented young musicians from the lakeside area along with accomplished performers from Guadalajara.

The group comprises the Orquesta Axixic string quartet with participating musicians Juan Pablo Médeles, first violin, Diana Laguna, second violin, Daniel Arturo Medeles, viola and Omar Fernando García, cello, accompanied by pianist Rodrigo Leal Murillo; and  vocalists María de Jesús Cárdenas, soprano, Teresa Banderas, mezzosoprano, José Luis Villarruel, tenor and Ricardo Lavín, baritone, from the Taller Operístico de Guadalajara.

Brothers Daniel and Juan Pablo Medeles, ages 24 and 18, members of the newest generation of Ajijic’s distinguished musical dynasty, and the third native son, pianist Murillo, also 18,  have already accumulated impressive credits on their respective resumes. All three have been tapped for scholarship patronage by lakeside’s Viva la Música organization, keeping up with advanced musical studies while taking on diverse working stints as professional musicians.

Founded just one year ago, Ópera de Cámara de Axixic has racked up kudos for its debut performance at Chapala’s Centro Cultural González Gallo, a second gala held at the same venue last summer and a recent appearance at Guadalajara’s Teatro Degollado.

Tickets for next week’s concert are priced at 150 pesos, 60 pesos for students, on sale at the auditorium box office, Diane Pearl Collecciones, Ocampo at Colón, or by order from Chuni Medeles, This email address is being protected from spambots.
