Siblings gunned down in Chapala

Two men gunned down Monday, June 22 in Chapala’s Tepehua barrio have been identified as Romulado Andres Perez Gomez, 31, and his younger brother Ricardo Perez Gómez, 28.

Following up on a report of gunfire heard in vicinity, local police discovered the bodies of the siblings sprawled a close distance apart on the side of Calle La Cascada. Witnesses told officers that the victims had been attacked by four armed men riding in a white or beige late-model crew cab pickup truck.

The incident immediately prompted a community wide manhunt involving both state and municipal patrols but the suspect vehicle escaped the police net.

Residents of the neighborhood claim the brothers had a reputation for committing home break-ins, petty theft and other criminal activities.

According to officials at the Ministerio Público (district attorney’s office), both men were found with gunshot wounds to the head and back of the neck, apparently inflicted by .35 and .380 caliber weapons.
