Chapala’s Avenida Madero makeover to start after Easter

The renovation of Avenida Francisco I. Madero, Chapala’s main artery, is set to get under way after the Easter holidays, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro announced during his March 25 working tour of Lakeside.

pg1bThe project will entail a complete overhaul of the 900-meter stretch between Calle Pino Suárez at the north end and the Fuente de Pescadores situated at the waterfront Malecón, to be carried out in stages over a two-year period.

According to the project blueprints presented by René Caro Gómez, general director of Architecture and Urbanism at the Jalisco Infrastructure and Public Works Department (SIOP), the work will consist of rehabilitating  underground pluvial and hydro-sanitary networks, resurfacing the street with stamped concrete in place of adoquín stone pavers, reorganizing parking space, adding a bicycle path to the western perimeter, and sprucing up  the median strip and sidewalks with planters, trees and new furnishings. A new fountain will be built at the north end of the avenue close to the municipal coliseum to create an attractive entryway to the downtown area.
