Recycling center resumes collection of plastics

The team at Ajijic’s Centro de Acopio (CdA) recycling center has resolved temporary inconveniences in handling plastic materials and, as of last Saturday, resumed the reception of articles that are currently marketable.

pg11bAccording to Harry Bublin, CdA’s head of operations, used plastic containers suitable for recycling and separated from other types of material may be dropped off at the facility during regular hours, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or deposited in the functional blue wire bins located at different points around Ajijic.

Glass bottles and jars and aluminum and metal cans are also being accepted at this time. However, due to current management and resale pricing issues, the handling of discarded paper and magazines remains on hold.

The CdA cannot recycle Styrofoam, plastic clam shell used for packaging bakery goods, produce, grocery and carryout foods; nor containers that hold any type of cooking or motor oil or toxic products, nor disposable plastic shopping bags.

pg11cThe volunteers who sort and bag recyclables ask that plastic items be rinsed clean, smashed as flat as possible, and recapped in the case of water or drink bottles to facilitate their altruistic work.

The CdA is located on the north side of the highway at El Bajio on the western outskirts of Ajijic. Field questions and stay abreast of changing conditions of its operations via the Reciclaje de Ribera Chapala/Recycling of Lakeside Chapala Facebook site.
