Mexicana buys world’s quietest single-aisle jet

Mexicana de Aviación, the new airline operated by the Ministry of Defense (Sedena), has signed a contract with Brazilan manufacturer Embraer to acquire 20 new single-class aircraft: ten 108-seat capacity E190-E2 planes and ten 132-seat capacity E195-E2 planes.

Delivery is scheduled in the second quarter of 2025 and is expected to contribute significantly to Mexicana’s international flight expansion.

Mexicana will be the first operator in Mexico of the E2, Embraer’s new generation jet, which is characterized by its low operating costs and fuel-efficient engines.   This aircraft has won plaudits for reducing its noise footprint—65 percent less than its predecessor. According to simpleflying.com, the Embraer E2 is now “officially the quietest single-aisle jet in the world.”

Noted simpleflying.com: “The E2 is so quiet, passengers onboard (Norway’s) Widerøe’s E190-E2 requested cabin crew keep their voices down, as their conversations could be heard throughout the cabin.”

Since restarting operations in December 2023, Mexicana has opened routes to 18 destinations within Mexico, transporting more than 115,000 passengers and accumulating more than 3,280 flight hours.
