President Claudia Sheinbaum has deployed more than 2,000 additional soldiers and National Guard officers to Jalisco in the wake of the February disturbances that followed the operation to detain cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho.”

The move has been applauded by business leaders, who say the increased presence of security forces should reassure citizens rather than cause greater anxiety.
During her recent visit to Guadalajara, Sheinbaum announced that around 100,000 security personnel will be deployed across the country — mostly in the three host cities of Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey — to maintain order during the upcoming World Cup in June and July.
