Jalisco’s industrial elite sat down with President Enrique Peña Nieto Thursday and gave him an earful about the recent blockades of the Guadalajara International Airport that have disrupted the flow of exports from the region and caused financial losses for many firms.

Netflix is increasing its monthly charges for Mexican subscribers from the beginning of October.

The peso fell to an historic low Wednesday, September 21, closing at 19.96 to the U.S. dollar. Mexico’s currency recovered slightly by Thursday to 19.70, although some banks and exchange houses were still trading above the 20-peso barrier.

Hugely unpopular at home, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto found some love north of the border this week as he received the Statesman of the Year award presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), an organization that calls itself “the principal public forum in New York City for foreign policy addresses.”

Mexico City’s growing reputation as a safe destination  was dealt a severe blow this week after the niece of the president of the Spanish Soccer Federation was kidnapped and murdered in the capital. 

More than 45,000 people marched in Guadalajara last Saturday in protest at President Enrique Peña Nieto’s proposals to legalize gay marriage in Mexico.
