Iris Peggy Dando

Longtime Lakeside resident Peggy Dando died on October 28 from complications after a stroke she suffered in 2002. She was 91.

Born in London, England, Dando established a photographic business in Aldershot, Hampshire, where she met her future husband Ceri. They married in 1954.

In 1964, Dando, her husband and two sons moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she was a partner in a personnel placement agency.

Always athletic, Dando enjoyed the many opportunities in Michigan for skiing, golf, tennis and other outdoor activities.

After her husband’s retirement in 1989, the couple opened a bed and breakfast in Saluda, North Carolina, which they sold in 1995, when they moved to Mexico.

The Dandos built a home in the Raquet Club in San Juan Cosala, primarily because of its tennis facilities. Playing in many tournaments, Dando gained a reputation for being a competitive player and was always fun to be around.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar and served as a vestry and altar guild person.

Sincere appreciation is due to many of Dando’s friends for their support during her long incapacitation, and the medical staff at Maskaras and Ajijic Clinic, as well as the nursing care staff at Alicias Sandoval and Casa Nostra, including therapists Micky, Ricky and Justina.

Dando is survived by husband Ceri, sons Jonathan and Jeremy, daughters-in-law Sue and Cristen, grandchildren Michellie, Ben and Tessa, and a brother, Derek.

A memorial service is being arranged for a later date. Condolences may be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
