Obituary - January 17, 2014

Longtime Lakeside resident Lela Marie Cullop died on October 11, 2013 at the age of 100.

Cullop was born August 6, 1913 in Troy, Illinois. After high school she attended beauty college. In 1931 she married Floyd Collup. They had one son, Roger, a major in the Army/Airforce who was killed training fighter pilots at the age of 35.

Cullop owned and operated a beauty shop and a floral shop, both of which she sold prior to moving to Saudi Arabia. After six years there, she and her husband moved to Arizona and built their dream home.

They traveled extensively, living in many places around the world, as her husband worked as a contractor in the energy field.

In 1976 the couple moved to Vista del Lago by Lake Chapala. Cullop was active in the Little Chapel by the Lake choir and often was in charge of floral decorations.

After losing her husband in 1986, she started traveling again.

She loved her home, her garden, her friends and Mexico. Her frankness and dry wit will be missed.
