Jalisciences in Toronto
Jalisco will provide 71 of the 510 athletes who will participate in the Pan American Games, which start in Toronto, Canada on July 10. The largest block of athletes – almost 14 percent of the total – will come from this state. They will take part in 28 of the 42 sports included in the games. The statistic is not surprising, since athletes from Jalisco regularly top national competitions, in both regular events and those undertaken by people with a disability.
Autlan bishop resigns
Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Autlan bishop Gonzalo Galvan Castillo. During his ministry Galvan was accused of covering up for priests guilty of sexual abuse of minors. The Mexican press reported a case some time ago of a young man who had told the Jalisco prelate of abuses he suffered in 2002 when he was 11 years old by a priest named Horacio Lopez. Years later the same victim and his family accused the bishop of negligence, because the priest had been shuffled off to another diocese.
