Where to dispose of analog TVs

Guadalajara and Zapopan residents who dump their old analog television sets in the street or public way will face fines of up to 12,000 pesos, municipal officials said this week.

Analog signals will be cut off in Jalisco on December 16, making the old sets practically useless (though they can still be used with a digital convertor).  Federal authorities believe around 40 million are either still in use to stored away in homes throughout the country.

Zapopan and Guadalajara have both set up collection points where the televisions can be taken for disposal. The one located on Calle Hidalgo, across from Zapopan city hall, opened December 8 and will receive sets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the Guadalajara municipality, collections points have been installed in nine locations, including the Parque Agua Azul, Bosque Los Colomos and Parque San Jacinto.
