Smog-check dodgers to be targeted

Jalisco’s Transportation Department (Secretaria de Movilidad or Semov) is about to start a crackdown on vehicles circulating without up-to-date “verificación vehicular” (obligatory emissions test) stickers.

pg5bAll vehicles with Jalisco license plates ending in the numbers 1-6 should have already been tested at any one of the state’s 451 authorized agencies/garages by the end of July. According to some reports, only one out of five vehicle owners in Jalisco has complied with this obligation.

August is for license plates terminating in 7, while vehicles with the remaining numbers – 8, 9 and 0 – should be taken for checks in September, October and November.

The smog checks, authorization of stickers and ancillary documentation cost 350-400 pesos.

The fine for not displaying a sticker is 1,500 pesos. However, if an emissions test is carried out within 15 days, the fine will be waived.

All the major auto agencies in metro-area Guadalajara carry out the checks.
