US envoy visits Jalisco

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Christopher Landau made his first visit to the state of Jalisco last weekend, faithfully documenting his experience on his Twitter account in his accustomed manner, much like any other excited tourist.

Lawyer Landau, a Donald Trump appointee and non-career diplomat, appears to have found the perfect blend of marrying work and pleasure. Visits to Tlaquepaque, Tequila and Chapala (see story page 24) were interspersed with “official” meetings with Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro, local business leaders, and tours of U.S. firms operating in the region.

“I don’t even drink but I can attest that the town of Tequila is really magical,” the ambassador tweeted.

Landau also praised the “tortas ahogadas” served up at a meal he shared with Alfaro, and commented favorably on his pet dog, Peri.
