Downtown Winter Festival up & running

Since assuming office on September 30, Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus has directed his staff to pull out all the stops to reactivate the economy in the historic center of the city.

pg4This year, despite the ongoing pandemic, the city’s culture department has come up with the idea of a winter festival, titled “Ilusionante, Festival de Invierno,” involving a whole range of seasonal attractions designed to keep visitors to the centro historico happy both before and after dark.

The offerings, many of them taking place at different points along the 2.8-kilometer Paseo Alcalde pedestrian walkway, include performances of segments from the “Nutcracker” ballet, Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra ensembles, folk dancing, mariachis, video mapping of historic buildings, a Santa’s House and Workshop, an ice rink, a Christmas market, nightly fireworks, posadas, guided walks and much more.

Guadalajara City Hall says it is also working on  a special program to celebrate the new year that will be announced shortly.
