Accused Tala dog abuser arraigned

A Jalisco district judge in Tequila has ruled there is sufficient evidence for a man accused of being responsible for the death of at least 11 dogs to face trial.

The defendant, identified only as  “Eduardo V” of Tala, Jalisco, will be detained for a maximum period of six months while authorities complete their investigation.

Police officers called to his property on June 11 discovered several decomposing corpses of at least 11 canines, as well as bags containing the bones and remains of others.

According to a state government press release, one of the deceased dogs showed a fracture in its rib cage, while the ten dogs found alive in the property were “in an apparent state of mistreatment, some malnourished and with scabies.” All the dogs were rescued and are being cared for by municipal authorities or animal protection organizations.
