Vallarta theme park inches ahead

Despite some delays, the US$1.4 billion theme park and resort development that was originally set to open in Nuevo Vallarta in 2018 is “continuing to progress,” say its developers, Grupo Vidanta.

Since the pandemic, the project has been expanded and rebranded as Vidanta World, and will feature a permanent dinner theater to host the Cirque du Soleil “Joya” show (similar to the one operated by the same chain at its Riviera Maya resort located near Playa del Carmen), while a waterpark called Jungala Aqua Experience and nature theme park will also be featured. A sky gondola that is already in operation will transport visitors from the nearby Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta resort to all of the attractions.

Publicity for the project calls it “a multi-tiered destination of immersive entertainment and vacation experiences across several park concepts, spanning hundreds of acres and countless one-of-a-kind experiences.” According to local sources, various roller coasters have arrived at the site and are already being installed. The first phase of the development is scheduled to open later this year.
