Bomb attack kills six in Tlajomulco

In what appears to be a deadly escalation in the violent tactics employed by criminal organizations in Jalisco, four police officers and two civilians died on the evening of Tuesday July 11 when a police convoy was the target of a bomb attack in a semi-populated area of Tlajomulco, the town located 30 kilometers south of Guadalajara centro that is the seat of the large municipality extending into the metropolitan area.

pg1bFourteen people were injured in the massive blast, including three children, authorities said.

Wednesday, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro said seven landmines or improvised explosive devices had been buried in the gravel road and detonated remotely, targeting three vehicles from the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office (Fiscalia del Estado or FE) that had pulled up near a property to investigate a tip-off about a possible clandestine grave site.

“This is an unprecedented event that shows what these organized crime groups are capable of,” Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro said in a press release, later describing the attack as “a brutal act of terror” and the perpetrators “cowards.”
