Guadalajara’s first female mayor takes the helm

For the first time in its 482-year history, Guadalajara has a female mayor (presidente municipal). Verónica Delgadillo, 41, was sworn in on Monday, September 30, along with other mayors in the rest of the Guadalajara metropolitan area, as well as municipalities across Jalisco (see Chapala on page 11).

Dengue is ‘serious’

Around one-third of the 4,829 dengue cases registered in Jalisco in 2024 should be classified as “serious,” said Héctor Raúl Pérez, an infectious disease specialist and the former director of the Civil Hospitals of Guadalajara.
