Ajijic’s weekend street fair whips up controversy

The temporary closure of Calle Morelos over the past two weekends has generated inconveniences, complaints and opposing views concerning the operation of the Andador Axixic, a series of pedestrian-friendly outdoor dining and shopping festivals put together by local merchants with the apparent consent of the municipal government. 

Referendum on town delegates still on hold

At the urging of citizens backed by members of the Chapala City Council, Mayor Javier Degollado has repeatedly pledged to hold public referendums to name permanent delegados (town administrators) for Ajijic, Atotonilquillo, San Antonio Tlayacapan, San Nicolas de Ibarra and Santa Cruz de la Soledad. 

Radisson to open hotel in Ajijic

Mexican real estate and investment firm Sun-Star Group, led by real estate developer Omar O’Rourke Martinez and his partner Thomas Wahl, issued a press release this week confirming they have “executed an agreement” with Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group for the development and operation of a Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa at Lake Chapala, with “an option for additional territories.”
