English National Ballet to come to Guadalajara in 2018?

Guadalajara ballet star Isaac Hernandez is working hard to try and bring the English National Ballet on tour to Mexico in 2018.

Hernandez, a principal dancer with the famed troupe, would like to see performances at the Palacio de Bellas Artes and Auditorio Nacional in the capital, as well as in Guadalajara.

The English National Ballet has never toured on the American continent as a full troupe.

Hernandez told the Notimex news agency that ideally he wants the company to perform two versions of Giselle, one of the world’s great romantic ballets. The Mexican public would see a modern version of the work choreographed by Akram Khan with set and costumes by Academy Award winning designer Tim Yip (“Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon”), as well as a classic interpretation of the 100-year-old ballet.   Khan’s ballet has received eight U.K. National Dance Award nominations.  Hernandez is also up for Best Male Dancer in the same awards.

Hernandez recognized that bringing the troupe to Mexico would be a major challenge, but is possible if the right sponsorship can be obtained.
