‘Redwood Highway’ gets rerun at Piano Rojo

A month before the rest of the world gets to see the feature film “Redwood Highway” starring Shirley Knight and Tom Skerritt, Ajijic gets three more chances. James Twyman, the producer and co-screenwriter of the film, moved to the area six weeks ago and decided to give the Lake Chapala region the first sneak peak at the movie. Three screenings at El Piano Rojo sold out in a matter of days, so Twyman has decided to add three more.

“Redwood Highway was written to inspire people over 50,” he says. “It all started when I saw ‘The Exotic Marigold Hotel.’ I realized that there weren’t enough films being made for what I like to call the ‘ageless generation,’ and that’s why I’m so passionate about Redwood Highway. The fact that we’ve had people standing in line to see it at El Piano Rojo shows me that this is the perfect community to share this story – about a 75-year-old woman played by Academy Award nominee Shirley Knight who decides you’re never too old to have a grand adventure. It doesn’t come out in the States or Canada until April, so this is the chance to see Redwood Highway before anyone gets the chance.”

Twyman is The New York Times bestselling author of 15 books, but during the last ten years he has focused on theaters more than bookstores. His spiritually based novels have been read by millions of people, but it’s his passion for film that drives him today.

“I moved to Mexico because I wanted to return to the basics,” he says, “but at the same time, I can’t help but share this wonderful film, especially since there are so many retirees in the area. I think they’re going to relate to the story because everyone who moved here did so against the advice of the people they love, and because they’re ready for an adventure.”

The previous screenings sold out every night, so book tickets in advance by calling (376) 766-2876. Screenings will take place on Monday, March 10; Tuesday, March 11, and Thursday, March 13 and Twyman will be present at each one to answer questions and share music from the film.
