pg20Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal, a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, has moved its Sunday services to La Huerta Events Center, Carretera West 522, West Ajijic (where the Tuesday Organic Market is held).

The congregation will observe the third Sunday of Lent, March 4, with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. Vicar Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message, “Zeal,” based on John 2:13-22.

The Lunch Bunch will meet at 11:45 a.m. at Yves’ Restaurant, on the Carretera in West Ajijic next to Dental Express.

The Bible Study will meet Tuesday, March 6, 2 p.m. at the home of Elizabeth Carroll at Galeana 35. All are welcome to learn about the book of James.

Unitarian Universalists

Sunday, March 4, the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship blends February’s theme (Humanism) and March’s (Transformation) as Rev. Matt Alspaugh reflects on Rev. Daniel O’Connel’s words (by video) on humanism, and Rev. Matt comments on his own path of transformation. How might one’s human-focused approach to religion change and expand? What pitfalls exist in the humanistic path?  Catherine Luria is the Service Leader.

The service will be followed (after a short break) by the wedding ceremony for members Joan Jaquish and Jim Bellamy. This will be the first wedding held at the Fellowship since its formation.

The Unitarians meet 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera. Questions? Call Fred at (376) 766-1458.

Lakeside Presbyterian

The sermon title for March 4 is “On Loan” and the Scripture passage is Luke 12:13-21. This lesser known parable tells about a successful but foolish rich man who decides to build new barns to hold his abundance of crops. Jesus points out that we have far less control of our lives than we might think – either when that life will end, or what the ultimate end is for all those things we value so much in this life.

A local optometrist successfully provided a free eye clinic Tuesday, February 27, to members of Lakeside Presbyterian, as well as the community at large. Due to its success, future clinics will be held. Beginning March 4, blood pressure screenings will be offered on the first Sunday of each month after the 10 a.m. service and glucose screenings on the third Sunday of each month. For accurate readings, it is strongly suggested no caffeine be consumed one hour prior to screening. These screening activities are open to the community (English and Spanish-speaking).

Adult Sunday School continues at 8:30 a.m., discussing the lectionary for this week and the ever popular open Creative Forum, discussing any questions related to the sermon or the church or our beliefs at 11:15 a.m.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church is located at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar. English-language services begin each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services are 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is welcome.

Abundant Life Church

How does our culture attempt to influence the church? This may seem like a strange question to some, but the reality is that if we allow it, the culture around us will have its influence. Come this Sunday, March 4, as we discover some irrefutable things about God. Although the world may be confused about genders, our God is not. We cannot change God into a female and any intent in doing so will result in idol worship, as we will not be worshiping God any longer. There are things that the culture has wrong and can never be used to modify the truth of the Scriptures. This Sunday you may be challenged to rethink what you have accepted without thinking it through.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish-language Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

The church is located at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from Super Lake. For more information, call 331-417-7038 (cel).

St. Andrew’s Anglican

Saturday, March 3, 10:30 a.m., all are welcome to hear a talk on “Death and Dying” from Loretta Downs, an end-of-life practitioner who holds a Master’s Degree in Gerontology.  She believes there is bliss to be found at life’s end.  She will offer useful information to guide us to achieve the goal of dying well.  Attendees are please asked to register at This email address is being protected from spambots. Sunday, March 4, St. Andrew’s welcomes its new rector, the Rev. Glenn Burr Chalmers.  Prior to his call to St. Andrew’s, Rev. Chalmers served, from 2009 until his retirement, as rector of The Church of The Holy Apostles in New York City.  There, he also was executive director of Holy Apostles’ Soup Kitchen, the largest such kitchen in the city, providing more than 1,000 meals every weekday to the hungry and homeless.

St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist begins Sunday, 10 a.m. and bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

Sunday, March 11, after services, a potluck will be held to welcome Rev. Chalmers. Sign-up in the garden on Sunday, March 4. Guests are asked to bring a main dish or salad.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel by the Lake

“Don’t go to church,” says Pastor Ken. “Oh, you can join us on Sundays, if you want. But we’re not trying to recruit pew-sitters at Little Chapel. So don’t go to church,” he says. “Be the church. In everything you do, everywhere you go, be the body of Christ in a world that desperately needs to meet Him.”

This Sunday’s conversation at Little Chapel is titled “Don’t Go to Church.” It is drawn from Revelation 3 and other passages. Communion will be served.

Non-denominational Christian, English language Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m.  Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly comida (church meal) after the service.

Little Chapel is a dog-friendly congregation, to allow for those who need to keep their fur friends close. Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “’I heard of an ancient Chinese fable of a mother duck teaching her ducklings to walk.  One of her ducklings could not figure it out. She said, ‘But mother, do I start with my left foot or my right foot?’ The mother duck said, ‘Hush! Just walk!’ If you want to go surfing, get a surfboard, go the surf, and wait for a wave. You cannot create the wave, but you can be ready to catch it and then catch it. You need not study up on ‘how to build a wave.’ Henry Blackaby says followers of Jesus do not need to wonder what God’s will is. Just look to see where God is working and join Him. Walk! The surf is up!”

Sunday, March 4, 11 a.m., Brother Bob will give the sermon at the worship service of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

San Andres English

“Today, we celebrate the foolishness of God that is wiser than any human wisdom: the utter folly of his love that allowed the destruction of the temple of the body of his Son. And we dedicate ourselves anew to the Love of the Lord which gives wisdom to the simple.”

So says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “Christ, The wisdom of God” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Sunday, March 4, 9 a.m.

The San Andres English congregation holds a “First Sunday of the Month Food Drive” to help support the children at Villa Infantil orphanage in Jocotepec and the sisters who care for them. Consider bringing a non-perishable food item, toilet tissue, cleaning products and the like to Sunday’s Liturgy.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

Jewish Congregation

Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation.

Home Church Int’l

Nice-sounding, religious philosophies are never acceptable. They are from the mouths of thieves and robbers. They want to steal your peace, kill your understanding, and destroy your faith. Are today’s Christians really listening for the Holy Spirit to reveal the Lord’s Word?

Pastors Paul and Susana Allen urge all true Christians to seek this necessity of faith.
