Guadalajara’s presidential primary

About 50 expats in Guadalajara chose the Democrats Abroad primary over their home-state primaries to select from a roster of candidates for U.S. president.

The event was held in the Black Sheep restaurant and bar, near the U.S. Consulate, Saturday, March 7. A steady trickle of voters showed up, starting at 10 a.m., and were met by DA-GDL volunteers working in shifts. Voting was done separately from the volunteer stations. Volunteers explained that they printed 300 ballots, but some expats voted in home-state primaries, and can only vote in one. After voting, attendees partook of food, drink and conversation on the ground floor of the Black Sheep. The next big event is the annual meeting for all Democrats in Mexico, held this year in Guadalajara, March 27-29 at the Midtown Hilton. The keynote speaker is Obama Press Secretary Ben LaBolt.
