Go fly a kite

Ajijic’s 4th annual Kite Festival runs Friday, January 31 to Sunday, February 2 on the Ajijic Malecon. Kite-making workshops start at 3 p.m.; a kite flying contest begins 4 p.m.; live music cranks up at 5 p.m.; and an artisan and gastronomic exposition runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Spay-Ghetti No Balls, a fundraiser for the Jocotepec spay and neuter clinic, is held Saturday, January 25, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Raquet Club in San Juan Cosala.

Charity garage sale

A garage sale benefitting a Juanacatlan nursing home takes place Saturday and Sunday, January 11 and 12, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the home of Alfredo and Martha Aceves, Ocampo 180A (across from Hotel Danza del Sol) in Ajijic. Taxes

A discount of 15 percent is available for municipal property taxes (predial) paid January 2 to February 28 at Chapala’s Catastro (land registry) office in Chapala City Hall, open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Special discounts of up to 50 percent may apply for those over 65 or with disabilities, depending on the property value.
