Letters to the Editor - December 13, 2013

Dear Sir,

This is a loving and heart-felt thank you to all who attended the “Christmas Love” charity event at Plaza Montana last Saturday. We had good attendance at both seatings and made a substantial amount of money to divide between the two charities, Operation Feed and Operation Compassion Ministries.

Letters to the Editor - December 6, 2013

Dear Sir,

My regular friend at the gym, a Canadian, once confessed that he didn’t like to feel “exploited” by Mexicans who spot him as a gringo and charge him accordingly a higher price for whatever he’s negotiating at that time.

Alert, ladies!

Dear Sir,

In regard to Emma Bergh-Apton and Micki Wendt’s recent letters concerning their extreme distaste for the 3-4 hours that Mexican children and their parents now spend celebrating Halloween down here in Mexico:  Alert, ladies!

I recently stood behind a Mexican woman in Wal-Mart who was buying a turkey for Thanksgiving. Yes! This Mexican woman intends to celebrate American Thanksgiving right here in Jalisco. Call the Culture Police and do not delay! She lived for 17 years in the United States and recently had to move back home, but while there her family learned to love that American holiday. So they pooled their money and have bought a huge turkey and they intend to make dressing and have cranberries, too. Shame on this señora and her miscreant relations for perpetuating these nasty Norteamericano holiday habits down here in Mexico! Why, we are already chock-full of the kind of fiestas that are more appropriate for these sweet, helpless little brown people. Perhaps Emma and Micki will want to take to picketing in the streets real soon, because I previously had seen this same woman eyeing a Christmas ham in the freezer case!

Alice Hudson, Ajijic

Thanks for the honor bestowed on me

Dear Sir,

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ajijic Delegado Hector España and the people of our great town for the honor that was bestowed on me.  In the parade for Dia de Muertos, I was asked to, and gladly did, portray Pedro Loco astride Vino Blanco, his valiant burro.  I found out how beloved he is, even after his death. It was truly my honor to portray him and help people relive his memory.  Poor Vino Blanco, asked to go back into service after a year and to carry me in the parade!

Distressed by the pet food tax

Dear Sir,

I am distressed to learn of the proposed 16 percent tax on pet food. Pet food is already quite expensive in Mexico and many people are unable to feed the animals they have.
