Wide-ranging memoir by Indian diplomat to Mexico fascinates

It is not always easy to find an alternative take on historical events that is also wise.

pg16aThe recently published autobiography of Pascal Alan Nazareth, the former ambassador of India to Mexico, offers such a view of the 20th-century history of this country, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize and many farther-flung nations.

Nazareth wrote two earlier books explaining Mahatma Gandhi to the world and giving clues to the author’s orientation toward what is important in life. But the readable “A Ringside Seat to History,” already translated into 23 languages, has a wider scope. How could it not, since Nazareth’s diplomatic career took in five continents, including, besides countries already mentioned, Bangladesh, Egypt, Ghana, Japan, Liberia, Myanmar, Peru, the United States, the United Kingdom and more?
