Figs (higos) are one of the juiciest, sweetest and most fragrant fruits you will find anywhere. Not only that, they are rich in fiber and essential minerals such as manganese, calcium, magnesium, copper and potassium.
And, according to BBC Good Food, they also promote digestive health, are rich in antioxidants, may support healthy blood pressure and bone health and may improve diet quality and aid weight management.
Another good reason for eating figs is Higo Fest (Fig Festival), a six-week celebration of the fruit featuring 23 participating restaurants in Tlaquepaque, 16 in Guadalajara and two in Zapopan.
Running October 14 though November 30, the establishments are offering specialty dishes featuring figs. The eateries have been urged to be as creative as possible, and the variety on offer is quite remarkable.
